Boxcar Grocer grew out of an idea to create a scalable model for healthy food retail that would be welcome within a variety of urban communities across the US. With Alphonzo’s retail & communications background and Alison’s advertising & design background, they embarked upon an adventure to turn a family-owned building into an inspirational beacon for underserved communities.
By sourcing from local suppliers, reaching out to minority-owned farms, and providing a healthy mix of everyday items, Boxcar Grocer has ushered in a new era to raise expectations around food retail in areas not serviced by larger retail grocery chains.
Boxcar Grocer works to strengthen urban communities by providing access to nutritious food and inspiring people to make healthier choices.
Our goal is to expand our distinct model of convenience retail to 20 different cities across the U.S. by promoting local partnerships with farmers, suppliers, and loyal customers who value the quality service, holistic vision, and beneficial foods we supply.
We believe that by providing an environment where the idea of food and community are synonymous with health, we will inspire and improve overall community health by making nutritious food accessible and convenient. We believe integrated solutions that focus on holistic methods of healing and growth lead to harmonious lives and healthy families.
To act in ways that support and nurture the life around us should be the goal of any business. As a result, we recognize that local people supporting local, sustainable products helps to expand opportunities within urban communities, which allows for greater access to prosperity for all.
